Introduction of the “Super Form” by the Companies Office of Jamaica for the Registration of New Companies and Business Names

The Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ) this year introduced a single Business Registration Form, “Super Form” or BRF 1” , which was implemented for the registration of new companies and business names.

This form effectively replaced numerous forms, a total of 13, that were previously used for the registration and commencement of companies and business names in Jamaica and, therefore eliminated the need for the customer to visit various government agencies and departments to complete the registration process.  Simply put, the “Super Form” – (BRF 1) allows for ‘one stop business Registration’ for the following:
• Business Name
• TRN
• GCT
• NIS
• NHT

The COJ will issue the Certificate of Incorporation bearing all relevant numbers (NIS, TRN, GCT). If required, additional TRN numbers will be issued by Tax Administration Jamaica upon receipt of the Certificate of Incorporation.

This new method of registration was achieved by means of electronic exchange of data between COJ’s system and the National Insurance Scheme, as well as the Tax Administration Jamaica’s (TAJ) Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) system.
Some of the important benefits of the “Super Form” include: convenience, ease of transactions, saving of time, reduction of cost and the immediate availability of a Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) upon completion of registration. For more information or access to the “Super Form” you may visit the COJ or check their website at www.orcjamaica.com.
