Jamaica Trade Board

The Trade Board, headed by a Trade Administrator, is Jamaica’s certifying authority for goods exported under the
various trade agreements. The Board is located at:

Products which require an export license:
  1. Scrap Metal (Incl. Scrap Batteries)
  2. Scrap Gold/Silver
  3. Coffee and Pimento
  4. Live animals
  5. Endangered Species
  6. Brown sugar
  7. Petroleum Oils
  8. Ammunition (explosives and firearms)
  9. Eggs (N.O.P.)
  10. Antique furniture
  11. Ores Minerals and metals including Bauxite, Alumina and Gypsum
  12. Paintings (antique)
  13. Plasma in any form
  14. Wood Lignum vitae and log wood only
  15. Motor Vehicles
  16. Jewellery (Excluding those from earth metals)
  17. Shells (subject to Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species administered by NEPA)

Export Licenses

There are two types of export licenses:

  1. Open Export Permits are valid for three (3) months to one (1) year and issued to exporters ofOres, Sugar and Petroleum
    Products
  2. General Export Permits are issued for the remaining items and valid for three (3) months onlyexcept for scrap metal that is
    valid for only one (1) month.

Certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture

If endangered species an approval letter from the National Environmental Planning Agency (NEPA) is also required
